Jose Rizal University completed its objective by trudging on Philippine College of Criminology, 81-67, on May 22 to garner a quarterfinals entry in the 2009 Nike Summer League at the Far Eastern University Gym.
Joshua Saret was in the groove in the second period, scoring 11 consecutive points in a 19-3 getaway for the game’s biggest cushion, 37-20, 3:56 before the half. PCCr made a game out of it with the Enforcers trimming the gap to two, 53-55, just before the third period ended.
Louie Vigil then took over with his own scoring frenzy in the first part of the fourth period as the Light Bombers held fort.
Saret fired 24 points and partner in crime Vigil held vigil for 20 markers and 17 rebounds. Jordan dela Paz helped out with 11.
JR Valera waxed hot for the Enforcers with 27 points. Tom Elomina finished with a double-double 15 markers and ten rebounds.
Bugoy Mendano locked in 12 points.
The Lighties tie University of Santo Tomas on top of juniors Group B with four victories and a defeat. The two would slug it out for the top seed on May 26.
In the other game in the afternoon, Don Bosco Technical College won its only game in the tourney against University of the Philippines Integrated School, 67-60.
Kenn Guillarte spearheaded the Greywolves with 28 points and five rebounds, while brother Kevin had seven and ten. Christian Ong had ten markers.
Aaron Lina headed the Baby Maroons with 21 points and six boards. Kevin Villanueva played spectacular with ten markers, 16 rebounds, and two assists.
Nuel Geocaniga had ten points and eight caroms.
In the final day of the elminations on May 25, two crucial seniors games would start off in the morning.
Lyceum of the Philippines University-Manila needs to dispose Universidad de Manila at 9am in order to have a chance for a three-way tie for second place in seniors Group C. De La Salle University would try to avoid complications as it try to win against home team FEU at 10:30am.
At 3pm, Adamson University is on win or go home mode against San Beda College-Rizal. A win by the Baby Falcons would propel them to a triple tie along with Ateneo High School. A San Beda victory would give the Red Cubs the first seed in juniors Group A and eliminate Adamson in the process.
In another juniors skirmish, Colegio de San Juan de Letran shoots for a sweep of Group D as the Squires go up against NCAA counterpart University of Perpetual Help System Dalta at 1:30pm.
Finally, it is a no-bearing all-UAAP contest between University of Santo Tomas and National University at high noon.
